California Insurance CE Requirements

The California Department of Insurance requires licensed agents to complete continuing education every two-year license term.

Property, casualty, life, and accident and health agents must complete 24 CE credit hours every two-year license term, including 3 hours of ethics training.

At least 3 of your 24 required hours must cover ethics and the California Insurance Code. Ethics courses are available through this platform.

Limited Lines Auto: 20 Hours

Limited Lines Automobile Insurance Agents must complete 20 CE hours per two-year term, including 3 hours of ethics training.

Specialty Requirements

Additional training is required for Long-Term Care (8 hours), annuity suitability (4-8 hours), and homeowners' insurance valuation (3 hours, one time).

The CDI recommends finishing CE at least 60 days before your license expiration to allow time for providers to submit rosters and the CDI to update your records.
